How long does it take to build a custom home?

New custom home construction typically takes 9–16 months from groundbreaking to move-in, depending on size and complexity. Additions usually take 5–8 months, and whole-house remodels range from 1–6 months. Design and permitting add additional time before construction begins.

What's the difference between a remodel and an addition?

A remodel transforms existing space—updating finishes, moving walls, reconfiguring layouts—without expanding the home's footprint. An addition adds new square footage to the home, whether building out, building up, or both. Many projects combine both: adding space while renovating the existing home to integrate seamlessly.

Do I need an architect before talking to a builder?

Not necessarily. We work with clients at all stages—some come to us with completed construction documents, others with just an idea. We can help you evaluate whether your plans are buildable and realistic before you invest heavily in design, and we're happy to recommend architects we've worked well with.
